welcome

Bataflyer

You are all invited for the EGEA-sports-event of the century: the world’s largest relay combined with one of Europe’s biggest student parties! Last year Egea’s team “hej, hej, hej, leert die Gläser” was a big success. Therefore, we as EGEA Nijmegen will be your host again this year for the Batavierenrace. We hope to welcome you all in the oldest city of the Netherlands.

On Saturday midnight, the 24th of April 2010 the 38th edition of the Batavierenrace will start. This annual event is a student relay race organized in the Netherlands. It is a 185 km race starting off at the Radboud University Nijmegen and it takes the up to 8000 participants in 25 stages through Germany to the campus of the University of Twente in Enschede. There are 17 men's stages and 8 women's stages varying from 3.4 km to 11.9 km, over paved and unpaved terrain. More than 300 teams participate in this race.
It was listed in 2006, in the Guinness World Records as the relay race with the highest number of participants. Although mainly a Benelux event, teams from all over the world participate. What is truly unique about this race is the mixture of competitive elements as well as the social aspects. At midnight on the 24th of April, the race starts and then the first runners will dive into the night for their heroic battle against the elements. This is the beginning of 18 hours of sportsmanship. When you complete this heroic battle the well deserved beer(s) will be waiting for you… In brief, a nice opportunity to be out with your fellow Egeans for a few days and definitely a great experience!

When:
The opening ceremony will be on Friday, the 23rd of April, with a dinner with all the participants. After you survived the party, we will say goodbye on Sunday, the 25th in the morning.
